Harry Potter Book A Modern Classic

Halloween Stuff

A Harry Potter book is now considered a modern classic in the realm of childrens literature. Popular with children and adults alike, this series has run as a classic example of good versus evil...

Every year or so, I rush out to buy the latest Harry Potter book. My husband and I have grown up children so it isn't for them. We are not ashamed to admit that we are Harry Potter addicts. We have been enchanted by the Harry Potter world and all its characters and adventures. We also line up to see the movies and we play all the computer games. The wait for the next book is excruciating, and the only way we survive is by watching the DVDs over and over.

Are we sad, pathetic creatures? Some people think so, but we simply don't care. We're not harming anyone. There has been a recent trend for cross generation stories, with both children and adults reading the same books, such as J.K. Rowling's Potter series and also the Philip Pullman novels. This seems to annoy some people, who glare at adults reading a Harry Potter book, as if they have committed some great sin. I feel sorry for these people who have lost their inner child somewhere along the way.

When is the wrong time to read a Harry Potter book? When you are twelve? Sixteen? Twenty? Who makes the rules? I re-read the Wind In The Willows every year and Alice In Wonderland every so often. The connection between these children's classics and the Rowling series is that they are all so very well written. For this reason, a Harry Potter book is considered a modern classic of children's literature. It deserves to be so highly thought of, and grown ups who sneer at it are missing out.

The world of Harry Potter is a world of adventure, battles and comradeship. It's not just a fantasy story of wizards and magic, but a sensitive depiction of a young boy and his rites of passage. It may be set in a fantastic world, but many themes mirror our own experience. We can all relate to Harry coping with school, falling out with his friends and his first crush on a girl. That's why we love it.

JK Rowling draws readers into the world she has created by paying great  attention  to the details.  Both major and minor characters are thoughtfully brought to life in a Harry Potter book.  Any book that persuades adolescent boys to read has got to be a good thing. Teachers in the UK say that literacy levels, especially among boys, have greatly improved since kids got hooked on the latest Harry Potter book.

Harry and his friends mature and their bond is strengthened with each new Harry Potter book.. The adventures of the wizard world and the conventional world of muggles begins to overlap. Sometimes, it's difficult to know who to trust. A Harry Potter book is a classic tale of good versus evil.

I think J.K.Rowling has been very brave when writing a Harry Potter book. Since 1997, she has made each one darker and has not shirked from killing off favorite characters. Readers must face the harsh realities of life in the midst of all the magic.
Meanwhile, I am desperate for the next book to come out. I am as excited as a little kid and I don't care.
